Cluck, cluck...

So... I head out to a shoot tonight.  My better half asks what type of shoot it is, and the reply gets a big sigh.  "Oh.  A newborn". 

I was hoping, that the bubby would be either not incredibly cute, OR badly behaved, so I would not get the full clucking impact, but....nope.  Sadly, baby H was gorgeous as well as perfectly behaved.  Game over.  I want one.

Once upon a time...

...there was a little princess, who started planning her wedding at around age two (on good information from the Bridesmaids).  Luckily, when she was a little older, she met a real life prince, who swept her off her feet, married her and took her a secret honeymoon destination (my lips were sealed - which is big for me)!

The result of twenty plus years of planning, is a picture perfect wedding, where the bride cries, the groom cries and as a result, I end up bawling and have to point my camera in the air and click.

The reception at the Flying Fish Cafe was amazing, due in part to the phenomenal talent of Sean Robertson who sang and Djed and was an all round nice guy!  If you are looking for a fantastic videographer, I can now highly recommend one. 

 
  
   
  
 

 

Simon and Deanna...

Well if clouds and rain are good luck for a wedding day... we were all set to have a perfect wedding!  With guests from overseas, family and friends all around, and the cutest, happiest daughter you've ever seen - this certainly came true.

Yaaay. The Clicks for Kids Auction is LIVE - Now... Do NOT miss out!

As you can see, I am very excited.  Not only about the prospect of raising money for Clicks for Kids, but how awesome it's been setting this up with the other photographers involved.

We have had so many photographers donate their time and talent to this and I can't thank them enough.

M & A - Engagement Shoot

So...I've been suffering from a spot of Blog envy lately.

Well not so much envy, as much as realising that everyone else writes ALOT more than me.  And I'm not sure if that's a good thing, bad thing or neither... But by heck, I was gonna write something in this one!

Unfortunately, all of the juicy stuff I have from this shoot was hush hush. So I can't spill.  Sigh.

Guess as usual, I'm jut going to have to let the photos speak for themselves.

What I learnt on Saturday...

On Saturday, Emma Sharkey and I were fortunate enough to be asked to photograph a very emotional wedding, which proved two things - a) good things DO come to those who wait and b) it'll be OK on the day!

And I was lucky to learn a few things on the day as well...listen up and follow along...

1. Some little boys make you wanna have a few more of them...

  

2. ...But little boys still need little little girls to make things 'just right'.

  

 

 

3. Little Boys were made SPECIALLY to hold their mums' hands when needed.

 

4. But when Mr. Whippy pulls up outside the church...

NOTHING is going to stop them wanting an ice-cream.

5. Confetti is fun...but bubbles are WAY more fun.

 

6. When bridesmaids are left to their own devices, they will do bad things.

 

7. Meh...but so will brides and other girls!

8. Some people just belong together.

 

But the MOST important thing I learnt was that when a very innocent looking mother of the bride invites you to try the Firewater as part of the ceremony... it is NOT, repeat NOT a good idea!  Congrats you guys, you deserve all the happiness in the world.

Clicks for Kids - We are Thailand Bound!

Hi Guys! 

Just a quick update on our family news.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to take a holiday to Thailand and was touched by the living conditions of many people, but particularly the families with young kids like mine.   In the Northern Thailand villages we visited, the living conditions were beyond basic with many families not having even the barest of necessities. 

In (the many) areas that were devastated by the Tsunami, many have not been able to rebuild and live in half demolished houses with no amenities.

Over 15 million people in Thailand live on less than $2.00 a day.   While that amount certainly goes further in Thailand than it does in Australia (!!), it is not enough to look after a family and there is no welfare system.  Of the 2.8 million prostitutes in Thailand, many have been forced or chosen to take this path due to lack of other options.   Young girls in particular are lacking in the education that could make the difference between other employment and entering the sex trade.  The link below gives some good information on the situation in Thailand and what can be done.

More generally than this, since agriculture has been devalued in Thailand in recent decades, families have looked to other methods to support their families.  Being able to speak English is a valuable commodity for both adults and children, allowing them to gain employment in towns and in the tourism industry.

In February 2010, my family and I have volunteered to work for free in a small village in Nong Khai - Northern Thailand which houses the headquarters of an organization called Open Mind Projects.  It is one of the few organisations recommended by CNN in their ‘Be the Change‘ campaign.  (http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/11/13/btc.ngos/index.html).  

We will be working in the Nursery School and teaching both adults and children English, as well as helping in the production of brochures, websites and other information which they are lacking in order to get their message to a wider community and gain more assistance.

This is a photo from one of the very touristy areas in Thailand, where the Tsunami hit hard.  This is not in the process of being repaired - it is how families are living due to lack of money.

Having a job which pays (comparatively) well is the only way these families are going to get a hand up.  And speaking English is one of the only ways to get such a job.

One day in Victor Harbour...

Once upon a time in Victor Harbour, we all expected a rainy cold day for a Winter wedding.

What we got, made us all sure that God was indeed present, with a gorgeous, sunny day for a gorgeous, enamoured couple.

The Day that broke My Son's Heart...

  Today was the day that my three year old boy dreaded and wept big boy tears over... his beloved carer (and girlfriend in his eyes) was married to his nemesis Simon.

I would like to thank Bek for looking after my baby boy from a newborn to his grand old age of three, it has made going to work much easier knowing he is loved and cared for.

Bek looked stunning as always, as I'm sure you would agree and it was my absolute pleasure to be there as guest and photographer.  Congratulations Bek and Simon.
